The Spring meeting of the IWCC Brass Rod Committee was held in Istanbul last week. The key topics covered in the meeting included:
- A discussion on the CLP certification and the transporting of products and substances containing lead now being deemed a ‘hazardous substance’ and the impact of this on European Brass producers.
- The committee were then shown a statistical presentation by the IWCC Team which outlined Brass Rod production and demand trends in all major global markets with a deep dive into exports of brass products from China.
- Members then heard an update on the Umbrella Project by Sue Fortunato-Esbach, Assent, and the timeline for exemptions and submissions to the committee in the next 18 months.
- Finally, the committee heard an update on the Drinking Water Directive from Lara van de Merckt, Eurometaux, and some information about the DWD Workshop being held in Brussels on the 2nd of October. This event will include speakers from ECHA and the EU Commission. The link to register for this event has been sent to all Brass Rod Committee members.

The meeting also included a dinner, held at Feriye on the waterfront of the Bosporus river. This gave members a chance to catch up and network with friends across the industry.
We would like to thank everyone who attended this meeting, and look forward to the next meeting in Athens on the 6th and 7th of November. To find out more about the work of the IWCC Brass Rod Committee, contact us at iwcc@coppercouncil.org.
