The IWCC is involved with Back British Metals, a cross-metal initiative which attempts to create a practical policy environment to facilitate growth in the UK metals sector. The initiative aims to engage with policy makers to promote the importance of strengthening and expanding the UK’s metals and critical minerals sectors.

The initiative will concentrate primarily on collaborating with UK policymakers to enhance the policy recognition of the UK metals sector. For copper specifically, the group wishes to push for copper’s inclusion in the UK’s critical mineral list, as we believe not considering Copper as a critical mineral is an oversight given its importance in technologies such as electric vehicles, AI, green energy and defence.

Members of Back British Metals met with Chris McDonald MP, to discuss the initiatives’ roadmap to securing recognition, investment and industrial strategy support for the metals industry. Please click here for a full Back British Metals Mission Statement.
