Joint Meeting 2020 in Montréal
The venue for the 2020 IWCC Joint Meeting has been announced as the Canadian city of Montréal. Next year’s event will be held from 10-14 May.
It is the intention to revamp the content of the Joint Meeting to make it even more relevant to the needs of the industry. The Joint Meeting will continue to provide unparalleled networking opportunities. There will also be visits to the Glencore CCR Refinery and to the Nexans Canada wire rod plant; both of which are located in Montréal. The programme and registration pack will be made available in January 2020.
Responsible Sourcing Update
IWCC continues to contribute to the various responsible sourcing initiatives being introduced in the copper industry. The London Metal Exchange (LME) is developing a responsible sourcing policy for all metals traded on the Exchange. In June 2019, the IWCC made a formal submission in response to the latest LME consultation on responsible sourcing, and attended a roundtable meeting hosted by the LME to discuss these proposals. It is expected that these new requirements will be introduced in 2020.
The ICA’s proposals for the Copper Mark, which the IWCC has been helping to develop, has made significant progress. The initiative to recognise mining, and smelting and refining operations which adopt responsible production practices has now been formally launched. Applications for the ‘Copper Mark’ will start to be accepted from next year. More information is available from the Copper Mark website at www.coppermark.org.
