The COVID-19 pandemic is having a big impact on the global economy and creating a time of uncertainty for many businesses in the copper value chain.

During these uncertain times, information is essential. This is why in the coming months IWCC is continuing to provide key data to our members and the wider copper industry.

Here is a summary of the major statistical series and reports available.

Supply and Demand Forecasts for Unwrought Copper – May

The IWCC Supply and Demand Forecasts will be published in May 2020.

Discussions with copper producers, semis fabricators, and leading industry analysts who contribute to the forecasts are already underway.

A series of industry conference calls are scheduled to take place during week commencing 20 April. For information on how to take part in these calls, please email iwcc@coppercouncil.org.

Product Committee statistics – Spring/ Summer

Each IWCC Product Committee has bespoke data series produced relating to their semis product in Europe.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented most physical meetings from taking place during the first half of 2020, all statistical data series and market reports will continue to be issued and made available to committee members on the IWCC website.

The datasets for each Product Committee will be published in the following months.

April
Copper Wire Rod Committee
Copper Bars Committee
Brass Rod Committee

May
Copper Tube Committee

June

World Trade Database – now free to access – May 2020

The comprehensive database of world trade in copper and copper alloy semis products will be published in May. The database will now be free to access for all IWCC Members and copper producing companies.

The fully searchable database will include trade flows for 94 countries. This database of annual data covers all semis types (both copper and copper alloy), refined copper (cathode, billet and wire bar) and scrap from 2012 to 2019.

End-Use Dataset – Summer 2020

Research is already underway to produce the highly regarded IWCC/ICA End-Use dataset covering 2019.

This report sets out tonnage of copper used for a range of end-use applications, across all major markets. It will be published in summer 2020.

Economic Data and LME Metal Prices – Regular updates

All those with access to the Members Area of the IWCC website can also continue to view a range of international economic data which have an impact on the copper industry, as well as historical trends and data for prices and stocks of copper and other relevant metals as listed on the major metal exchanges.

IWCC Statistical Bulletin – Quarterly

Each quarter, IWCC publishes comprehensive data covering production, demand and trade of copper and alloy semis, for over 25 countries including every major market.

The latest update for Q4-19 is now available to IWCC members by logging in and going to the Statistics and Reports section.

These, and additional, sets of data are available to IWCC Members by logging into the Members Area of the website.
